What’s In a Name?

When Canton Food Tours was founded in 2012, hardly anyone had even heard of a “food tour”, let alone understood the concept. We wanted the name to be descriptive and give a sense of place. Within five years, however, we found ourselves beyond city boundaries, experimenting with tours in various pockets of Stark County.

Then we purchased a van and the boundary extensions expanded further. We started Wooster Food Tours, and briefly did some tours in Ohio City. This was a time of creativity: Dessert Tours, Canton Marathon Tours, Farm-To-Table Tours, etc.

Then we scaled back.

Around 2019 we sold the van and focused on our Canton walking tour roots. But the calls for Wooster didn’t stop, and we eventually turned our attention to other cities, like Akron. We decided to rebrand.

We wanted a new name that would be applicable in a variety of situations. It certainly didn’t make sense to offer a Canton Food Tour in Wooster, Akron, or Minerva. And since we mulled around ideas such as history walks, executive services, pub crawls, and more, we felt the word ‘food’ was bogging us down as well. We settled on what you see today.

We love the essence of the name, Explore City Tours. There is always something new to experience, or an opportunity to better appreciate what’s right in front of us. Through touring and exploring, we help you uncover the best of the city. Whether you’re a local or traveler, we look forward to offering you even more opportunities to explore the amazing local businesses of Northeastern Ohio!
